The Role:
The Mid-Weight Designer at ORCA works alongside the Senior Designer to craft a series of creative solutions for each brief that enters the studio.
They are required to take part in initial client meetings, briefing sessions, presentations and workshops from time-to-time.
The Mid-Weight Designer should work closely with the Client Services team to receive creative briefs and to help deliver them through a variety of creative solutions.
The Mid-Weight Designer must also help to guide, support and nurture any Design Interns and Junior Designers throughout their placements/ careers, ensuring they have what they need to perform their role to the best of their ability and to grow and flourish at ORCA.
They will also be responsible for creating brand and digital assets for ORCA’s own brand communications and ORCA’s retained accounts, working alongside the Marketing team to meet the requirements for each brand, product and campaign.
Responsibilities:
- Receive a creative brief and run with it; injecting creative ideas and flair
- Create a series of concepts and assets for brand identity, digital, animation and campaign projects
- Create ongoing design assets and concepts for our retained clients
- Follow direction and guidance from the senior team
- Lead, mentor and support Junior Designers and Design Interns
- Discuss ideas and concepts in a passionate and compelling way with clarity and confidence
- Show a willingness to listen to feedback (from both the accounts team and design team) and apply to improve output
- Attend client meetings, creative presentations and workshops when required
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Deliver an understanding of the challenges and opportunities of each creative brief
- Deliver ideas and concepts that combine a creative and strategic understanding
- Effectively collaborate with clients and other team members
- Complete a variety of brand identity projects, from conception to rollout
- Work on complex UI projects, digital products and full design systems
- Work on a variety of other illustration, typography, editorial and digital design tasks
- Develop animations and motion graphics to bring a variety of creative concepts to life
- Craft project case studies for ORCA’s website and various creative platforms to showcase studio portfolio
- Engage with the team during brainstorm, sketch and verbal sessions
- Put together strong concepts with clear reasoning and supporting explanation
- Create and deliver design presentations both internally and externally
- Balance time management in line with studio requirements
- Ensure ORCA is seen as a thought leader in the design industry through article writing and engaging with ORCA’s marketing content online
- Portray ORCA’s values and ethos
Essential skills and experience:
- At least three years agency experience with a varied portfolio
- Strong knowledge of brand identity, typography, web, social media and print
- Must excel at motion design
- A proficiency in After Effects
- A proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite - and any other software such as Figma, Cinema 4D etc
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong communication skills and confidence in presenting your designs to clients as well as internal teams
- A insatiable curiosity and huger to develop
